This annual event takes members on cruising segments as near as Potters Cove, Dutch Harbor or Newport and as far away as Shelter Harbor, Nantucket or Provincetown, Massachusetts. It’s a great way for our members to enjoy the surrounding marinas and yacht clubs with friends from the Club.
Since it was re-instituted in 1979, the annual EYC Club Cruise has been an anticipated event shared by many of the members of EYC. They enjoy the varied and diverse routes, sailing conditions and sights that cruising afloat provides.
There are also members who combine the Club Cruise week with their own earlier or later schedules to further lengthen their cruising range. In true cruising form the members venture from the mouth of Narragansett Bay – Easterly one year and Westerly the next. This ensures a varied schedule, short and long sailing legs under various conditions, dining at new and local establishments as well as a relaxing time in welcoming ports of call. In addition to various marinas and other Yacht Clubs the Cruise often stops at little known, sheltered “gunk holes” where a quiet time enjoying the company of the other cruising members is spent.
During the cruise there are a few “planned events”, dinners and such, however members routinely follow the set schedule (or not) according to their preferences. Participants do try to meet up at the ports where events are scheduled and enjoy an evening or two of drinks, dinner and conversation, before moving on to their next port of call.
The annual Club Cruise is a planned and scripted function yet flexible and casual, and that is what makes it the enjoyable and interesting vacation pastime that it is meant to be. Members are free to follow the routing that was pre-planned, in total or not, group with other boats of like type and interest or not. The only thing that matters is that everyone enjoys the days on the water, the boating, the sights, the meals, the drinks and the good company of others who share the same interests.
The 2019 Club Cruise will be planned early in the summer of 2019; meanwhile check out the information for last year’s event below.
